casa de tree's curry tempeh sandwich

casa de tree's curry tempeh sandwich

hello vegetable diaries,

lets talk japanese organic vegan cafe and bakery in west los angeles!

boy oh boy, i hope i get to go back to casa de tree soon. this curry flavored fried tempeh sandwich is so delightful! its a nice crusty curry tempeh slathered with tartar sauce and nestled between a little bed of cabbage and fresh bread of your choice.. i like the six-grain. you will also receive a side of pasta salad and green salad.. always fresh and always good! if you are gluten-free you can rest assured that they use wheat-free soy sauce, but still inquire about gluten in their dishes because there is a lot of seitan on the menu. they have a great buffet for $7.99/lb!

i like to look at their butternut speakers:

and here are some excellent tacos!

everyone must try this place. the menu is so creative and not overly priced. by the way, its cash only. go go go!!

sacred chow's banana bread french toast

sacred chow's banana bread french toast

i certainly miss sacred chow. this little eatery located near washington square park is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of nyc. they offer tapas, heros, salads, and desserts! all of the food is vegan with many gluten-free options. they also claim to be 100% hardcore. i like it.

shojin's tomato tartar

shojin's tomato tartar

shojin is my favourite japanese restaurant in los angeles. prepare to be pampered when you eat here as the shojin staff are very attentive and hospitable. you simply can’t go wrong with whatever you order and everything is moderately priced. their creative menu is always growing and they also offer cooking classes! shojin cuisine is inherently vegan and you always feel so fresh and alive after you eat here. remember to make room for their beautiful desserts!

meals by genet

veggie combo

veggie combo

meals by genet! you shouldn’t even waste your time reading this drivel.. just go and NOW (although they are closed on monday and tuesdays)! this is by far the greatest ethiopian restaurant i have tried.. because i am vegan i haven’t tried the meats, however i hear that those are quite amazing, too. but we won’t talk about that here. i have tried the tofu tibs (cooked in oil, not butter) and those are down right fantastic, too.

if you don’t like the injera (bread), you can order your veggie with rice. its not officially on the menu but i have a gluten-free friend who has done it quite often. although this meal is intended to be shared, i have on many occasion finished it solo! remember to say hello to genet when you pass by the kitchen to wash off your hands!

zucchini, peppers, burper cucumbers

zucchini, peppers, burper cucumbers

dear vegetable diary,

today i made a salad with fresh burper cucumbers from my mum’s garden! i used the peppers in my dal, and the zucchini is waiting to be baked into zucchini bread, of course.
